the bang. improv conservatory program
Get on stage in just sixteen weeks!
Improvisation is good for you! No matter what you do for a living, or what your interests are, the skills that are emphasized in improv can benefit you in all areas. Whether you are an accountant, a writer, a novice actor or a seasoned performer, our program is designed to develop your unique abilities in a supportive and challenging setting.
bang. teachers are not only experienced improv instructors, but also professional actors, writers and directors. Students become part of our community of teachers and other working improvisers.
We are more interested in opening creative doors to enthusiastic students than in espousing one dogma, and so our approach combines theories of improv both old and new. With that in mind, we believe that our students benefit most from a varied roster of instructors with differing backgrounds and teaching styles. Improv Gurus may have their place, but it’s not here at bang.
bang. offers the fastest track for you to get up on stage, in weekly student performances of The Harold long-form. There is no other respectable theatre in Hollywood that can give you such a full experience at such a reasonable price. Get what you need faster, for less.
All bang students begin at Level 1, regardless of individual experience. You may be a seasoned improviser, but ours is conservatory program, and the students in your first class will become the team with whom you eventually perform. In order to build the trust and camaraderie that the most successful teams enjoy, all members must move through the process together. You will agree that this shared experience is vital to the success of a true ensemble, especially in a program as intensive as this.
Our stage belongs to our graduates. Here are just a few of the opportunities open to you upon successful completion of the program:
- Alumni Jams
- Monthly Lab Class Series
- Intensive Writing, Mask and Commedia workshops, among others
In addition, you may choose to create a new long-form, do a one-person show, or produce your own scripted work. In short, having shown your dedication to us, we return the same to you.
bang. continues to redefine the boundaries of improvisation with its innovative productions, all of which are produced and/or performed by our graduates. Recent examples include a late night talk show, an evening of improvised monologues, and a tour’ through the theatre, highlighting original graduate writing. With its emphasis on honesty and commitment, bang. is widely recognized for its edgy, intelligent and inventive comedy.
Whatever your participation, at bang. you will be part of a talented and creative network of improvisers, devoted to the continued study of the craft of improvisation.

Classes Now Forming

bang. is a studio dedicated to the ongoing study and performance of improvisation. Through exercises and games, our classes offer you the tools you need to create dynamic scenes and characters in the moment.
Each of the five levels in the program focus on specific areas, as follows:
Level 1 covers improv basics such as scenic structure, listening skills, give-and-take, and staying relaxed while responding in the moment.
Level 2 involves continued scenic study, and in-depth character work. Solo and partnered exercises help students develop honest, fleshed-out characters.
Level 3 teaches various long-form styles, highlighting The Harold, in which teams create a series of scenes and games based on an audience suggestion.
Level 4 prepares students for performance with games designed to get team members on their feet and working well together.
Master Class Level is the culmination of the program, and provides ongoing opportunities for the serious improv student to grow creatively both on stage and off. The Master Class is six months long, and includes a weekly instructor-led Tuesday night workout, as well as an audience attended Harold performance each Friday in our signature Big Show.
Note: Class size is limited to ensure individual attention and ample stage time.
